Once a custom one-off builder, Paul Reed Smith and PRS Guitars have established themselves as one of the most formidable guitar companies in the business today. Not only do their builds turn heads, they are some of the most versatile and best playing guitars available.Â
Before the current factory in Stevensville, PRS made guitars in a small factory on Virginia Ave. in Annapolis, MD. This 1986 PRS 24 (s/n: 6 1768) is a piece from that era and a real walk down memory lane for any PRS enthusiast.
The guitar is in very good to excellent condition for its age and is a joy to play. The body shows some signs of play wear but overall is in great shape. The original T&B pickups and floating tremolo show slight signs of use but the hardware is free of rust and the instrument looks to have been kept in a climate controlled environment. The electronics all function as they should including the 5-way rotary pot and sweet switch.
The frets show signs of use but there is no signs of pitting and there is still height left. We assume this guitar was maintained by a luthier in its recent history. The gloss on the back of the neck looks to have been taken down at some point and is now slinky smooth. It is free of any dents or dings and the regular profile feels excellent in the hands and plays awfully quick. The headstock is also in excellent shape and the Phase 1 locking tuners hold tune well.
The original case (which is in good condition) and tremolo bar are also included. Â
If you're looking for an early PRS that has a ton of understated mojo and plays awesome, you've come to the right place. More photos and information available, please message us with any questions you may have. Â
