The introduction of the Top Boost circuit to the main panel of the VOX AC30 in 1963 was a pivotal moment for Vox. Once an aftermarket addition to existing AC30’s, the inclusion of the bass and treble controls to the original circuit design illustrated Vox had found the last piece of their now classic sound. Closely associated with the Beatles and the early 60’s, the AC30 Top Boost is considered one the pillars of amp design.
This 1964 Copper Panel AC Top Boost is in very good condition. The grill cloth has one small tear but otherwise is in good shape for a 59 year old amplifier. The handles are fully functional and the original gold logo is intact. Note it appears someone marked eq settings into the face of the panel.
This amp has been serviced and all the inputs function as they should. The original two prong power cable has been updated to a 3-prong plug. This amp was made road ready by a local tech who replaced any faulty caps and tubes (there are no modifications to the circuit). It is currently loaded with (2) 12” Celestion Alnico Speakers but the original JMI Blue Bells will be included in the sale. An aftermarket single button footswitch is included as well (in addition, it looks like there was velcro added to the bottom of the cabinet to attach the footswitch).
Also included is a chrome amp stand.
This amp sounds huge and is the definition why vintage Vox is so desirable. This rare copper top is a great opportunity for the player and collector alike and won’t disappoint.
